Hargeisa – Yesterday, it was a great honor for Gollis University to welcome delegates from the Swiss Embassies in Nairobi and Addis Ababa, who visited the university. The delegation consisted of members from the Swiss Embassies in the East African region, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the Tropical and Public Health Institute, as well as the management of the One Health Initiative, a project implemented in Ethiopia, specifically in the Somali Regional State.
This visit, which was part of the “JOHI” project, aimed to strengthen the collaboration and cooperation between Gollis University and Jigjiga University in relation to the Master’s program known as the “One Health Program.” During the meeting, it was agreed to further enhance the progress that this collaboration is expected to bring in the near future. The “One Health Program” focuses on improving animal health, agriculture, and human health by employing an integrated approach based on research and close cooperation.
The administration of Gollis University, at the main campus in Hargeisa, highlighted the university’s capacity and capability in effectively implementing development projects targeting agriculture, livestock, environment, and human health. All these areas of action are crucial for the advancement of the Horn of Africa region, particularly for the nations of Ethiopia and Somaliland, which are part of East Africa. The administration also emphasized the university’s commitment to addressing the region’s health and environmental challenges through advanced research and high-quality training.
Finally, the meeting concluded in mutual understanding, agreement, and optimism for future collaboration and partnership. Both parties agreed to continue their cooperation and to create new opportunities that enhance education and social development.
